What do
the IITs Offer?
From the beginning, the IITs
have strived to be centers of excellence in all areas. Today, the IITs, the
IT-BHU and ISM, Dhanbad offer B.Tech in 32 disciplines, B. Pharm, B.Des,
B.Arch, 5-year integrated M.Sc. programs in 7 disciplines, an integrated M. Tech
and M. Tech Dual Degree in 43 fields.
In offering these Programs,
the IITs provide technological and scientific education that match international
standards and is delivered in an environment ideal for building a solid
foundation of knowledge and personality development. They also inculcate in
students the pursuit of excellence and self-discipline. All this ensures that
students emerge from the portals of these institutions, eager and ready to make
a mark on any stage, national or global.
The
IIT-JEE: How Big is the Challenge?
To
produce exceptionally qualified human resources it is important to take in
students with material that can be moulded. This has been the endeavor of the
IITs and other two institutions in admitting students. This aim is achieved by
the Joint Entrance Examination, better known as the IIT-JEE.
Eligibility
ˇ
JEE will be the sole criterion for ranking the students for
admission to IITs, IT-BHU, ISM-Dhanbad and other participating institutes.
ˇ
Candidates who have passed 10 +2 or equivalent qualifying
examination and secured atleast 60% (55% for ST/SC & PD) marks in the
respective Board Exams.
ˇ
The candidate can attempt JEE only twice in consecutive years.
ˇ
A student can write the JEE in the year in which he/she appears
the XII standard examination and/or in the following year.
ˇ
Those who join any of the IITs, IT-BHU, and ISM - Dhanbad through
JEE will not be permitted to appear for JEE in the future.

Syllabus for the IIT-JEE is
available on the Website of all the IITs and also in the Information Brochure of
JEE.
Exam Pattern
IIT-JEE will be a Single
Stage Objective Type Examination consisting of 2 papers instead of three, of
three hours duration each to test the comprehension and analytical ability of
the candidates. Both the papers will have three separate sections on Physics,
Chemistry & Mathematics. This new pattern is subject to change and the
final deciding authority is JEE Committee.
